I tried using leftover coffee grounds on my peace lily and it went yellow in a week
I read online that coffee grounds are good for plants... so I mixed maybe half a cup into the soil of my peace lily. It was fine for a few days, then the leaves started turning yellow really fast. I looked it up and found out peace lilies like acidic soil, but fresh grounds can be too strong and mess with the soil stuff. I had to repot it with new soil to save it. Has anyone else had a plant react badly to a home remedy like that?

Tried to give my spider plant a boost with leftover banana peels once. Buried a few chunks in the pot and waited for magic to happen. Instead I got a pot full of tiny fruit flies and a plant that looked sadder than before. Sometimes the internet makes it sound like our kitchen scraps are plant superfood, but it's just a good way to make a mess.

Isn't it wild how a little too much of a good thing can wreck stuff? I see this all the time with cleaning hacks that ruin surfaces. What other plant tips have backfired on you?
