I finally chose between a pothos and a ZZ plant for my north-facing office and one of them is barely hanging on
Six months ago I moved into a windowless office in Portland and had to pick one plant to survive on pure fluorescent light and my forgetful watering schedule. I went with the ZZ plant because everyone swore it was unkillable, and I passed on the pothos since I figured I already had three of them at home. Turns out the ZZ has thrown two new shoots since March, but my pothos cutting that I snuck in anyway has gone completely yellow and dropped four leaves. The weird part is I water them on the exact same day and the ZZ looks great while the pothos acts like I'm committing a crime against nature. I'm starting to think the "low light" label on plant tags means about ten different things depending on who wrote it. Anyone else had a plant that was supposed to thrive in shade just quietly give up on you?
