Hot take: The botanist I met told me my watering schedule was killing my succulents

She said I was drowning them every 5 days, so I cut it to once a month and now they actually thrive. Has anyone else had a pro call out their basic routine like that?

Yeah, soil mix is huge. Your mileage will definitely vary with different pots.

My friend's a horticulturist and she told me the same thing about my spider plant - I was watering it every week like clockwork. Maybe it's just me but I feel like those "drench then dry out completely" rules depend a lot on your specific soil mix and pot type. I mean once a month sounds like a lot if you're in a really hot climate but hey, if your succulents are thriving that's all that matters.
