Had to choose between a standard potting mix and making my own blending peat, perlite, and vermiculite last weekend

I was repotting about 8 houseplants and my local nursery was out of the pre mixed bags I usually grab. Decided to try mixing my own and went with a 2-1-1 ratio of peat, perlite, and vermiculite. So far the drainage seems way better on my pothos and snake plant, but my fern looks a little stressed. Anyone else notice a big difference when they switched to custom mixes?

My neighbor tried mixing her own and her peace lily almost died from too much drainage.

Store bought mixes are tested to work across different plants and messing with ratios just adds stress. @davis.emma's neighbor learned that the hard way with her peace lily.
