Grandma's old fern finally clicked after a talk with a park ranger
I've been keeping this Boston fern from my grandma for about 14 years, and it always looked scraggly no matter what I did. Last Saturday at the Oakland arboretum, a ranger named Dana pointed out that I was watering it like a lawn, not a jungle plant. She said to let the top two inches dry out and then give it a real soak, and now it's pushing out fronds like crazy. Has anyone else had a random stranger's advice fix a plant you've babied for ages?
