Visited the library in Portland and saw a book with a spine repair that made me stop

I was looking at their local history section and pulled out a book from 1928. The spine was fixed with what looked like packing tape, but it was done really well and held tight. The tape was cut clean and the edges were tucked under the cover boards. It got me thinking about quick fixes versus proper repairs. Has anyone else seen a repair job that made you rethink how you do things?

That kind of careful work really shows someone cared. My local used bookstore has a few like that, fixed with old cloth tape that's almost part of the book now. It makes you appreciate the hands that kept it going.

Hey @avery_stone95, that's actually cloth tape, not packing tape, but it's still a solid fix lol.
