That old binder at the library sale who changed how I trim pages
I was at the annual library book sale in Portland last spring, grabbing old hardcovers for cheap. An elderly gentleman saw me flipping through a beat-up copy of 'Moby Dick' and asked if I bind books. He spent 10 minutes showing me how he uses a scalpel instead of a guillotine for final trimming, said it gives him more control and less waste. Has anyone else switched to hand trimming after years using a press?

A scalpel works great if you keep a sharp blade and a steady hand.
