Showerthought: one broken kettle stitch cost me a whole weekend of casing in
I spent last Saturday casing in four books for a small order in my basement shop, and the third one came out lopsided no matter how many times I pressed it. Turns out the kettle stitch on that section had pulled loose about 40 pages in, so the spine was never tight to begin with. I ended up cutting the whole text block free, resewing it, and starting the case over, which ate my Sunday too. Now I run my thumb down the spine of every section before I glue up, and it takes 10 seconds. Has anyone else had a loose section sneak past them at the pressing stage, or is it just me not checking close enough?
