I used to trim all my book cloth by eye before gluing... what a mess

Honestly, for the first two years of binding, I would just rough-cut my book cloth with scissors and hope it lined up right. I'd glue it down and then trim the edges with a knife after, but the fabric would always shift or fray. Last month I finally started using a metal ruler and a rotary cutter to pre-cut every piece to the exact millimeter before I even open the glue pot. It takes me maybe 5 extra minutes per book, but I'm not dealing with wonky corners or glue bleeding through the edges anymore. Has anyone else noticed a huge difference just from measuring twice and cutting once on the cloth?

Oh man, I've gotta hard disagree here. I still just slap the cloth on and trim after, and honestly my corners look fine and nothing shifts if you use good glue. All that measuring feels like overkill for a hobbyist.
