Had a stretch last summer where every single spine I glued came out perfect...

For about five days straight I was nailing rounded spines on old paperbacks, no bubbles, no warping, just clean work. I even fixed a 1920s poetry book for a customer in Portland that had a busted hinge and it came out like new. Has anyone else had a random hot streak like that or was it just beginners luck on my part?

Did you clean your brushes between glues or switch to a different PVA mix? In my experience those hot streaks usually come down to something small like the humidity changing or you being in a better headspace that day. Your mileage may vary but I've had those runs end just as fast as they started.

Forty projects in and I've never once worried about the humidity in my shop or what headspace I'm in when I'm gluing up... it's just glue and wood. People overthink this stuff way too much. Half the time those "hot streaks" people talk about are just random chance, not some deep secret technique. You could probably clean your brushes with dish soap and spit and still get a perfect run if the wood is prepped right. I've had days where I'm rushing and tired and my glue ups come out perfect, then other days where I take my time and something pulls apart... it's just how it goes.
