Had a spine crack on me during rounding up in my garage last winter
I was working on a rebind of an old paperback in my garage in February, and the spine just snapped clean in half when I was rounding the back. Ended up having to split the textblock and re-sew it in two sections, which actually gave it a better hinge in the end. Anyone else ever rescue a busted spine with a weird fix?

Oh man, did you end up having to redo the endpapers too or were you able to keep the originals? I had a spine pop on a vintage sci-fi paperback once and I literally just glued a strip of bookbinding cloth straight down the inside of the spine and called it a day. It looked awful but the book actually held up way better after that than it did before. Sometimes the janky fixes end up being the strongest ones honestly.

Heard a bookbinder once say janky fixes often outlast the “proper” ones actually.
