TIL our book club nearly split over reading two short books instead of one long one
Last month in Denver, half of us wanted to squeeze in two 200 page books and the other half said that was cheating on the whole point of a slow read. We ended up flipping a coin at the coffee shop and the loser has been sulking for three weeks. How do you all handle a group that can't agree on book length?
Ugh, hard disagree on calling two books "cheating" (a slow read is about paying attention, not page count). If both picks are under 250 pages, that is still a whole month of reading and talking, so the coin flip just made one side feel unheard. Maybe try a rule where whoever wants the longer book gets veto power once a year, and the rest of the time you rotate who picks.
