PSA: Our book club just hit 12 members and the arguments are getting out of hand

We're reading 'The Goldfinch' and the debate over Theo's choices got so heated last night that Karen from accounting actually left the Zoom call early (she said her cat knocked over a plant, but we all know). Has anyone else's group gotten this big and started having real fights?

Karen from accounting is a known flight risk. The plant excuse is the book club version of "my dog ate my homework." At twelve people you're basically running a small, angry town hall meeting about fiction. Maybe we should start handing out those little plastic gavels to keep order.

Has anyone considered that bigger groups make people pick sides instead of just talking? You get little teams defending their view, and it stops being about the book. Maybe smaller chats would keep it from feeling like a fight.
