Our book club almost fell apart over the last chapter of 'Klara and the Sun'

We had a huge fight about whether Klara's sacrifice was hopeful or sad, and it got so bad people were talking about leaving. I made everyone write down one thing they agreed with from the other side before we met again, which felt silly but worked. After we did that in our Denver group, the next talk was way better and we actually got somewhere. Has anyone else found a trick to stop the same old arguments from going in circles?

That "write down one thing you agree with" trick is a lifesaver for book club fights.

Totally stealing that idea from @spencer_webb for my own group. We once spent a whole meeting stuck on the same point about a character's choice. Forcing everyone to find some common ground first would have saved us an hour. It cuts right through the noise.
