My book club's debate on unreliable narrators got settled by a family tree

We spent 3 hours arguing if the grandmother in that novel actually remembered things wrong or was lying, then someone brought a printed family tree and suddenly the timeline made sense for everyone. Has anyone else had a debate get solved by a visual aid instead of more talking?
