My book club told me I was 'overthinking' the ending and it totally changed how I read now
So last month my book club read this mystery novel and I spent like 20 minutes breaking down clues and hidden symbols I found. One lady just goes 'honey, sometimes a locked room is just a locked room.' Got me thinking I was forcing deep meaning where there was none. Now I try to read the first 100 pages without analyzing anything, just taking it in. Has anyone else had to unlearn the overanalysis habit?

But like, how do you even know when a detail is just a detail though? In my experience, people put red doors in games to make you stop and think, even if it's just a quick second. Like in that one game where every red door was a shortcut, except for the one in the tutorial that was just a fakeout. Your mileage may vary, but I've wasted so much time overthinking a blue vase or a specific floor tile. What made you so sure this one wasn't a clue?
