My book club picked the movie tie-in cover over the original and I still think we blew it
We had to choose between the original 1972 cover and the new movie tie-in cover for our book club's special reprint of a classic novel, and the group voted 7 to 3 for the movie version. I was on the losing side because I think the original art tells you what the book actually feels like, while the movie cover just sells tickets. Three months later, half the members admit they can't remember the story when they see the tie-in image, but they all recall the original painting from my copy. Our next pick is a book with four different covers, and I want us to vote based on which one matches the writing, not which one has a famous face on it. Has any other club dealt with cover art changing how people talk about a book?
