Just stumbled on a stat about banned books that blew my mind

I was looking up my book club's next pick and saw that over 1,000 books got challenged in US schools in 2022. That number came from the American Library Association's website. Before this I thought book banning was mostly old history, but it's happening right now. My club's split on whether bans just make people want to read something more or if they're a real threat to free access. What do you guys think, does the attention from a ban make a book sell better or is it just censorship?

Noticing how banning anything usually just makes people want it more, like when the school librarian told us not to look at that one shelf.

Nothing makes a forbidden shelf more interesting, @the_barbara.
