I finally suggested a nonfiction book for my club and it split the group.
We usually read fiction, but I picked a current events book last month. The debate got so heated that two members almost quit. Are book clubs ready for tough real-world topics?

Voting on the book first isn't the main problem. Good book clubs can handle real world topics, even when people get upset. If we only stick to safe fiction, we're not really challenging ourselves.
