Had to choose between a DNF pile and a one star rating system for my book club

My book club had 8 people and we split right down the middle on how to handle bad books. Half wanted to mark any book we didn't finish as DNF and just move on. The other half insisted on rating everything with stars so people knew what was a waste of time. I picked the DNF route because I figured it was less drama. After 4 months, 3 people quit because they said we never actually finished anything tough. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of split in their group?

That line about "never actually finished anything tough" really hit me. It's the same thing I see in DIY projects - people either bail at the first hard part or push through just to say they finished, even if the result is junk.

Jumping in here, but I gotta gently push back on that a little. Finishing something isn't the same as doing it right. I've seen plenty of people slap together a half-baked fix just so they can say it's done, but it falls apart three months later. That's not really finishing anything, it's just making a bigger mess for later. The real win is knowing when to stop, step back, and ask if you're actually solving the problem or just checking a box.
