Got into a fight at my book club over whether the ending was 'too neat'

We were at my friend's place last Tuesday night discussing this mystery novel, and two people nearly walked out over whether the wrap-up was realistic or just lazy. One lady said the author tied everything up with a bow so tight it felt fake, and the other argued that's the whole point of a cozy mystery. I sat there not knowing which side to take, but now I'm rethinking how I pick books for our monthly list. Has anyone else had a club split like this over a final chapter?

mitchell.mark says it's "not that serious" but here's the thing... people get weirdly defensive about their fictional worlds. I've seen a book club fall apart over a soup recipe misinterpretation, so yeah, a "too neat" ending can feel like a personal betrayal if you've invested hours into the characters. But also, if you're reading a cozy mystery and expecting gritty realism, maybe you're the one reading the wrong genre. Not every fight is a crisis but a little drama keeps things interesting, right?

Honestly, are book club fights really that serious? I mean, you're picking apart a genre literally called "cozy mystery" which is basically comfort food in book form. Of course the ending was neat, that's the whole deal with those books. Sounds like someone just wanted to argue about something.
