Debating if fiction or memoirs make for better book club picks after my group's worst month

My book club read a literary fiction novel last month and nobody finished it, but when we did a memoir by a comedian the month before everyone showed up with sticky notes and arguments. The fiction novel had beautiful writing but zero plot, while the memoir sparked a heated 45 minute debate about whether the author was being honest about her childhood. Which type of book do you think actually works better for keeping a group engaged fiction or nonfiction memoirs?
