A coworker's take on unreliable narrators made me question my favorite book

I was raving about a thriller we read last month, and this guy from the dish pit, Marcus, told me he thought the narrator was just lying to make herself look better. I laughed it off at first, but then he pointed out three specific scenes where her story didn't add up, like the phone call she claimed she made at 9 PM but the voicemail timestamp said 9:45. That sat with me for a week, and on my second read, I found about five other places where she conveniently forgot details. Now I'm wondering if I've been too trusting of narrators in general, and it kind of ruins the fun. Has anyone else had a book fall apart for them after someone else pointed out a small inconsistency?
