Tried purging a boiler with the vent cracked too far, water hammer scared me half to death
Was helping on a small unit over in Gary last Tuesday and I left the vent open too much while filling. Around 40 psi it started banging so loud the guy on the mezzanine jumped, and I shut it down fast. Pulled the vent way back after that and it filled quiet, so now I crack it just a hair and go slow. Any of you got a set rule for how far you open the vent on a fill?

Yeah, crack it less than you think and bleed it slow.
