Took me 10 years to figure out a better way to mark tube for saddle cuts
I always used a wrap-around and a soapstone for marking saddles on pipe. Problem was it never lined up perfect on the first try. Last week I tried using a piece of construction paper and a 2 inch drywall screw to punch a pivot hole, then marked it out flat before wrapping it around the tube. Worked way better than I expected on a 6 inch schedule 40 job up at the mill in Gary. Anybody got a faster method for bigger pipe?

Hell yeah, that paper trick is gold... I used a similar method on some 8 inch stainless last month and it saved me a ton of headache.

That paper trick sounds like more work than it's worth. I've been using a speed square and a sharpie on pipe for 20 years and it lines up fine if you take your time.
