The $25 gasket cutter I bought off Craigslist 4 months ago just saved me a 2 hour trip to the supply house this afternoon.

I was scrambling to match a weird flange on a steam drum and that old rotary cutter whipped out a perfect fit in under a minute, has anyone else found a random used tool that ended up being way more useful than you expected?

Oh man, I gotta respectfully disagree with you there. In my experience, those cheap rotary cutters from Craigslist or pawn shops are hit or miss, especially when you are working with thicker gasket material. Your mileage may vary, but I have seen more blades snap or the alignment go bad after a few uses. I would rather drive the 2 hours and grab a reliable gasket cutter from a known brand, even if it costs more. Saving 20 bucks today can cost you a big leak or a callback tomorrow. Take this with a grain of salt, but I learned that lesson the hard way with a used tool that left me stranded on a job site.

Yeah but did you try lubing the blade first though?
