Hit my 100th tube sheet on a boiler in Gary last week and just stood there for a minute
Last week we were wrapping up a retube on a 500 hp firetube unit in Gary, Indiana, and my helper goes, that's a hundred for you, ain't it? I'd been keeping a rough count in my head but never actually sat down and added it up. Turns out it's 100 tube sheets since I started rolling tubes as an apprentice back in 2011, and I just stood there with the torque wrench in my hand for a minute. The first one was on a little scotch marine unit where I burned two tubes trying to roll the wrong way, and the foreman made me cut them out and do it again while the whole crew watched. A hundred sounds like a lot until you figure the old hands on my crew have done a few thousand between them. Still felt good though, and I bought the crew breakfast sandwiches at the diner on Ridge Road to mark it. Anyway, I'm curious how most of you keep track, if you keep track at all. Do you count jobs off the top of your head, or is it just another day once you stop counting?
