Hit 1,000 welds on my record book last Friday
I was just flipping through my logbook for a job inspection and noticed I passed the 1,000 weld mark without even realizing it. That number surprised me because I started this trade three years ago barely able to run a bead on flat plate. Most of those are structural welds on water tanks around the Midwest, so I guess the grind adds up faster than you think. The funny part is I snapped a photo of the page to show my wife and she just said "cool, can you fix the kitchen stool?" Anyone else hit a random milestone that caught you off guard like that?

Is 1,000 welds in three years really something worth noting? Thats like 333 welds a year, roughly one per day if you factor in weekends and holidays. I knew guys in my first year who were doing 15-20 welds a shift on pipeline work, hitting 1,000 in just a couple months. Those water tank joints you're doing must be real simple if they're counting that slow. Maybe your logbook is the real surprise here - not the milestone itself.

Man, I had a buddy who bragged about his weld count too, then failed a pressure test on a simple pipe joint. Quantity don't mean much if half of em are garbage.
