Got burned by a $600 moisture meter, wish I skipped it

Picked up that fancy digital moisture meter for checking tube sheets before welding, but the probe tips were garbage on scaled surfaces and gave me false dry readings. Cost me a full day re-doing a header in Gary because the pipe was still wet inside. Anyone else trust the cheap pin type more than the expensive ones for rough jobs?
