A QC guy told me my welds were too pretty, he was right
Back in March over at the refinery job near Baton Rouge, this old QC inspector walked up and said my beads looked like jewelry, not structural work. I was pissed at first, thought he was busting my balls. Then he showed me a spot where I was running too hot and adding filler just to make it smooth, which left a weak root. I backed off the amps by about 15 and started letting the puddle talk instead of forcing it. Now my welds pass x-ray on the first shot more often than not. Anyone else get called out for over-finishing and had to unlearn it?
