Watching gamers teach a child shifted my view on winning
I used to think board game geeks were just about winning. At a local store event, I saw a group patiently teaching a tricky game to a young boy. Their focus was on his enjoyment, not their own scores. It showed me the community's heart is in sharing the fun. I've been more open to cooperative play since that day.

That's a sweet story but it kinda misses the real point of gaming communities. Focusing only on being nice can actually ruin the game for people who love the challenge. The heart of the hobby is the strategy and the fight to win, not just handing out participation trophies. Those guys teaching the kid were being cool, but if everyone played just to be welcoming, competitive play would die. The balance is what matters, not swinging from one extreme to the other. Letting someone win or always going easy isn't the same as real respect for the game.

See this pattern in my local gardening club. Members focus on helping new growers rather than showing off their own plants. It makes a solo hobby fun for everyone. Your gamer story shows the same spirit. Moving from winning to welcoming changes everything. I find these moments restore my faith in people.
