Warning: I avoided game meetups until a random encounter changed my mind.
I always thought board game meetups were for hardcore geeks only, so I never went. Then I met this dude at a coffee shop struggling with a rulebook for a game I love. We chatted, and he convinced me to check out his local group. I went, and it was actually super fun and not awkward at all. Now I'm hooked and go every week, lol.

My local game cafe downtown runs about five different meetups a week. The trick is to find the one that matches your speed. I always check the group's page first to see what games they're playing that night. If it's all heavy strategy stuff, I might skip it, but the casual nights are usually a mix of people. The average age at mine is like 30, so it's not just a college crowd. Glad you gave it a shot after that random coffee shop talk.
