Warning about a game night organizer who nearly ruined our club

Last month a guy named Dave volunteered to run our monthly board game meetup at a library in Portland. He showed up 45 minutes late with half the games missing pieces. Three years ago we had a similar issue with someone who just wanted to hoard the popular games for himself. Did any of your groups ever let a random person take over and mess things up like that?

Three years back at a local con in Seattle, this guy named Marcus signed up to run the evening social games and ended up turning it into his own personal auction for vintage Warhammer minis. He brought maybe four actual board games and spent the whole time showing off his collection on his phone instead of helping anyone pick something to play. The library staff had to step in when he started arguing with a kid about the price of a metal dreadnought.

You just know Marcus was one of those guys who thinks "social games" means "everyone watching me talk about my rare minis." The library staff probably had to be super careful too (since arguing with a kid over a toy is a bad look for everyone). Honestly, it sounds like he missed the whole point of running a game session - it's about playing together, not turning it into a marketplace.
