Unpopular opinion: backing that custom dice tower on Kickstarter was a $120 mistake

I got caught up in the hype for a hand carved wooden dice tower last fall. The pictures looked amazing, like a little castle for your dice. I backed it for $120, which felt like a lot but I told myself it was a centerpiece for game nights. It arrived six months late, and the finish was rough, literally. The dice get stuck on a ledge inside about one in every five rolls. It's too loud for quiet games, sounds like a rockslide in a tiny box. Now it sits on a shelf because no one wants to use it. I could have bought three great games for that cash. Has anyone else been burned by a fancy gaming accessory that just didn't work at the table?

Honestly, that sounds like a feature, not a bug. The loud noise is part of the drama, and a dice getting stuck just builds suspense. You paid for a hand made art piece, not a plastic tube from a factory. The fact it's late and a little rough just proves it's real wood made by a person. It's a centerpiece, like you said. You don't stop using your nice plates because they're noisy when you set them down.

Man, I always thought the flaws were the worst part. But you're right, that actually sounds kind of cool.
