TIL the cardboard insert in Catan is not just packing, it holds the hexes in place during play
Two years ago I hosted game night at my place in Columbus and my friend knocked the table during a tense trade. Six tiles slid out of place, nobody could agree on where the desert went, and the whole game fell apart in an argument about a sheep port. Last month I was about to throw out the insert because it just seemed like shipping junk, and the guy at the game store on High Street asked me why I would trash the thing that keeps the board locked together. Turns out you pop the border frame out and set it around the tiles, and the insert holds everything snug. I tried it Friday and we played three full games with zero tile shifts. What other inserts am I about to toss that actually do something?
