TIL that the original Settlers of Catan print run was only 500 copies

I was reading an old interview with Klaus Teuber (the designer) and he mentioned the first edition in 1995 was just 500 boxes. They sold out in a year, but that's still a tiny start for a game that's everywhere now. It's wild to think about finding one of those first copies in a German game store back then (you know, before it blew up). Makes you wonder how many other huge games started with a super small batch. Has anyone here actually seen or owned one of those original 500 copies?
