Still don't get the hype around Legacy games

My group tried Risk Legacy back in March at my place in Chicago. We were six guys, all excited. By game three, someone had already wrecked a card with a permanent marker. Felt wrong to me. I get the idea of a changing story, but I don't want to ruin components forever. We finished the campaign, but half the fun was gone knowing I couldn't ever play that copy again. I ended up selling it for $20 on Craigslist. Give me a standard game any day where I can reset and replay. Am I the only one who prefers keeping stuff reusable?

You got Risk Legacy mixed up with a different game. Risk Legacy doesn't have cards you mark up with permanent markers. That's more like Pandemic Legacy or something else.

Wait, hold on - I think you misread my original post (or maybe I typed it wrong, who knows). I was definitely talking about Risk Legacy, not some other game. In my copy, we had to write all over those little cards with the included dry-erase markers, not permanent ones, so maybe that’s the mix-up? But then again, I remember being told to use a sharpie for the board itself, which is totally a thing in Risk Legacy. Honestly, I’m starting to think my group just played it wrong and made up our own rules, which is kinda hilarious given how much we argued over it. Either way, you’re right that Pandemic Legacy has you destroy cards for good, but Risk Legacy does let you alter them permanently with a marker (just not the ones you trade in for bonuses). So yeah, I’m doubling down on my mistake or yours, but I’m too stubborn to admit it fully.
