Spent 45 minutes looking for a single tile piece in my closet

I was setting up Carcassonne for game night last Friday. Opened the box and realized the tile with the little monastery was missing. Dumped everything out, checked under furniture, even looked in the trash. Turned out it had slipped under the insert tray inside the box the whole time. Has anyone else had a piece vanish into a box void like that?

Oh man, that is the most frustrating thing ever lol. I had the exact same thing happen with a Settlers of Catan road piece once. I finally found it wedged under that flimsy cardboard insert after I had already torn my whole room apart looking for it. My tip is to always check the box itself first before you start flipping couches or whatever. Honestly now I lift the whole tray out and shake it over a table before I even bother looking anywhere else.

Three years ago I lost the single green house from Agricola for like six months. Pulled the whole house apart, blamed my cat, even emailed the company to see if I could buy a replacement. Then one day I picked up the box to put it on a shelf and heard a little rattle. It had somehow slipped between the outer cardboard and the inner liner, like the box had a secret pocket. I felt so dumb but also super relieved because now I always do what Fiona said and just lift that entire insert out and shake it before I touch anything else.
