Isn't this just how lots of stuff goes when you wing it? I mean, you see it with home projects or even trying to learn a skill without any steps, where it all just stalls out. Having some kind of plan from the start keeps things from becoming a chore.

Having a plan from the start" sounds like a good way to kill any fun or surprise. Half the time my best ideas come from just messing around without a list.
