My brother's comment about our game group made me rethink the whole 'competitive' thing
We were playing a really tight game of Terraforming Mars last Friday, and I was totally focused on beating him. After I won, he just shrugged and said, 'I had more fun watching you get excited about your engine than I did trying to win.' That hit me different. I realized I'd been treating every game night like a tournament for the past year, keeping score of wins in a notebook. His comment made me see that the 3 hours we spend together laughing and talking is the actual point, not the final score. Has anyone else had a moment that shifted them from being super competitive to just enjoying the hang?

Keeping score in a notebook" is a habit you just have to stop cold turkey.

It's part of a bigger thing where people treat relationships like a business deal. You start keeping track of favors and it just kills the vibe. Makes everything feel like a transaction.
