Just read that the first print run of Gloomhaven was only 5000 copies

I was looking up some old Kickstarter numbers and saw that on a BGG forum post. It blew my mind because now it's such a huge game. How did something that small get so big?

Wow, that's actually not that small for a board game.

Hold up, are we talking about the same box? I mean, the one I saw was huge. It barely fit on my kitchen table. The board itself unfolded to like three feet wide, and then you've got all those miniatures and card decks. Idk, maybe my apartment is just tiny but that thing felt massive.
