Inflatable bouncy house rental worth it or a trap?

Last June we paid $280 for a 15x15 bounce house for our cul-de-sac party and the kids loved it for exactly one hour before a zipper broke. The rental company blamed wear and tear and charged another $60 to pick it up early, so we ate the cost. A neighbor down the street swears by buying a $400 used one and reselling it after the season, claiming it pays for itself in two parties. Is the convenience of renting actually saving anyone headaches, or are we all just burning cash on liability?
