Cheap bubble machine kept dying, so I tried a DIY sock trick and it worked

Last year I bought one of those $20 bubble machines for the kids table at our block party and it overheated after like 45 minutes. This year I was about to give up and rent one, but my neighbor said to wrap a wet sock around the motor housing. I thought she was joking but tried it anyway with an old tube sock. Ran for 4 straight hours, no issues. The wet sock acts like a swamp cooler I guess. Anyone else got weird fixes for cheap party equipment that actually work?
