Bouncy castle or water slide? My cul-de-sac learned the hard way

Last August I put $250 into renting a 40-foot slip and slide for our street in Akron, but by 2pm three kids had scraped elbows and one dad twisted his ankle, so now I'm wondering if we should've just ponied up for the inflatable castle and its inflatable walls, has anyone else made this call before the sun gets brutal?

Honestly the real winner is the one nobody ever thinks about, the cheap inflatable kiddie pool with a tarp strung over it for shade. The slip and slide just becomes a sunburn machine after like 45 minutes, and bouncy castles turn into a sweat lodge by 1pm. Last summer my neighbor did the pool thing and the kids just rotated between splashing and lying on the grass, zero ER visits, and the adults actually got to hang out instead of playing referee. Plus you can fill it with the garden hose, so no rental company is breathing down your neck about rules. The only downside is you're basically volunteering to drain and refill it every few hours, but that beats a twisted ankle any day.
