Am I the only one who put a food truck at the block party and lost money?
So for our party in Rochester back in June we booked a taco truck instead of doing the usual potluck tables, and I was sure it was going to be the big hit. The guy charged $450 just to show up plus he kept the sales, and I talked the neighbors into skipping their dishes to support him. Problem was the truck sold maybe 60 plates in 4 hours because everyone had already eaten chips and hot dogs at the kids table by 3pm. We ended up with a line at 5:15 and a bunch of people grumbling that they paid $9 for a taco they could have made at home. My takeaway is food trucks sound cool but potlucks actually get folks talking to each other across the cooler. Has anyone worked out a deal where the truck does small $4 portions so people still graze?
