My phone jail in the freezer worked a little too well last week
I got sick of grabbing my phone every 5 minutes while trying to read, so I decided to lock it in my mini freezer in the garage. Wrapped it in a towel, set a timer for 2 hours, and walked away. When I came back, the towel had slipped and my phone was sitting right on the ice tray. It took me a whole hour with a hair dryer to get it working again, and now the screen has this weird rainbow stripe down the left side. Lesson learned: maybe just putting it in the living room closet is smart enough. Anyone else have a distraction trick that backfired in a wild way?

Feel for you on this one. That rainbow stripe is a permanent reminder of the gamble. At least you got it working, even if it's scarred for life.

Right? That rainbow stripe is basically a badge of honor at this point. I did the same thing with an old 360, tried to fix the red ring with the towel trick and it worked for like a month, then the thing just gave up completely. Now I've got a similar scar on a monitor I tried to solder myself, and every time I look at it I think "yep, that's where I went wrong." At least we can laugh about it now, even if our gear looks a little rough around the edges.
