My coworker swore by the 'phone in the bathroom' trick, turns out he was onto something
Last month my coworker Dave told me to leave my phone in the bathroom during deep work blocks, like totally out of sight. I laughed it off, thought it was ridiculous since I could just Silence it. Three weeks later I tried it on a Tuesday afternoon when that Excel report was killing me, and honestly the difference was wild. Just knowing I'd have to walk 15 steps to check Instagram made me stop reaching for it entirely. Has anyone else tried a weird location-based blocker that actually worked better than any app timer?

Whoa hold up, I gotta push back on one thing. The trick isn't really about the bathroom specifically, it's about making your phone a hassle to get to. I tried leaving mine in the kitchen drawer and same thing happened, the distance is what does it. App timers are a joke cause you can just click past them anyway. But yeah, having to physically get up and walk somewhere is way stronger of a barrier than any software. Glad Dave got you onto it though, that feeling of actually finishing a report without checking your phone is like a drug.
