Deleted Instagram off my phone for 30 days and somehow started scrolling email newsletters instead
I figured cutting the app would fix my mornings, so 4 weeks ago I removed Instagram and felt pretty good about it. By day 3 I was reading every store newsletter in my inbox, like actually reading them, Old Navy, a pet supply place I bought one thing from in 2022. Then I caught myself scrolling the CVS app for coupons at 6am, which is honestly worse. The lesson is that blocking one app just shoved the same dumb habit somewhere else, my brain wanted the scroll and it found a way. So now the phone charges in the kitchen overnight and that finally killed it. What's the weirdest thing your brain latched onto after you blocked your main app?
Tbh the thing nobody talks about is how the scroll isn't even about the app, it's about the little hit of "new stuff" your brain gets. I did the same thing with Instagram and ended up deep in my phone's weather app checking radar for towns three states away. Like why do I care about rain in Ohio, I don't live there. Your brain just wants a slot machine and it'll turn anything into one, even the settings menu. Charging it in the kitchen is the real fix because you killed the access, not just one app.
