Unpopular opinion: texting a friend "get me out of here" mid-date is rude, not funny

A buddy of mine did this on a first date at a diner in Tulsa last month, and his date saw the text pop up on his phone when he set it down. Some folks say a rescue text is just smart backup, but I think if you need an escape hatch that bad you should just say it to their face and split. Where do you draw the line on bailout texts?
