Showerthought: I picked the speed dating room over the app and got way better results
I did one of those 8 minute speed dating nights at a bar in Austin three weeks ago after 6 months of zero luck on a dating app. The app gave me maybe 2 matches a month and both ghosted me after one message. At the speed dating thing I talked to 11 people face to face and actually clicked with two of them, and we went out the next weekend. I think it was the eye contact and being forced to just talk instead of crafting the perfect opener. Has anyone else had a live event go better than the apps, or did I just get lucky with the crowd?

Did you see that article about how speed dating is making a comeback with people in their 30s? I read something on Vice or maybe it was a blog about how the forced 8 minute chats take the pressure off because you can't sit there rewriting a message for an hour. That part makes total sense to me. When you're face to face you just have to talk, and you find out in like 2 minutes if there's a vibe or not. On apps you can text for weeks and still have no clue. So yeah I don't think you got lucky, I think the setup just works better for actual connection.
